Internal Notice for Teamster Team Members: This posting will create a non-probationary internal Teamster eligibility list and fill 1 Vacancy for this classification. The current vacancy is in the UTILITIES department. The internal Teamster eligibility list will be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification, for up to one hundred and eighty (180) days. Non-probationary Teamster team members successfully completing the selection process will be placed on the internal Teamster eligibility list. All other team members including part-time/temporary employees along with external candidates may apply for this recruitment. These individuals may be considered after the appropriate recruitment process of the collective bargaining agreement has been followed. If the vacancy is not filled through promotion by a full-time non-probationary Teamster team members, the next opportunity for placement will be to hire qualified part-time/temporary employees and external candidates.

ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

- Pay Considerations –The starting hourly pay for this position is $24.55. The selected candidate for this position will start at the beginning of the salary range, no exceptions. Existing employees will receive increases as outlined by their bargaining agreement.
- Work Schedule – This position is scheduled to work 4 days per week, 9 hours per day, (36 hour work week) Monday through Thursday, 6:00am to 3:30pm.
- Environment – The worker frequently is in close quarters, narrow aisles, passageways, and crawl spaces, shafts, manholes, small, enclosed rooms, small sewage and water line pipes, and other areas which could cause claustrophobia. The worker is required to wear a respirator.
THE ROLE
WRF Operator Trainee learns the process of wastewater treatment and learns to perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled work in the operation, maintenance, repair, and related service activities for the Water Reclamation Facility (WRF). Individuals in this class learn to drive a variety of vehicles and learn to operate equipment for the treatment of wastewater.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
- Graduation from high school or equivalent AND one (1) year of full-time experience in construction, mechanical, or maintenance trades. Equivalent combinations of experience, training, and/or education which provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the major functions of the position may be considered.
- All positions must possess a valid state driver's license and maintain satisfactory motor vehicle record with the ability to obtain appropriate Nevada state driver’s license within required time frame and must possess and maintain an appropriate fork lift certificate within 6 months of the date of appointment.
Must obtain a valid State of Nevada Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade I Certification within one (1) year from date of hire
SELECTION PROCESS
1. Complete Online Application - Interested candidates MUST submit a completed application through the City’s application system. Evaluation of meeting requirements will be made solely on information provided on the application and any required attachments.
2. The selection process will begin with a screening of the application/resume - The best qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the assessment process. The selection process will include (dates to be determined).
3. Personnel File Review - Pass/Fail, Minimum passing score is 75% - All current employees seeking internal positions will undergo a personnel file review. The personnel file review includes a current employment status check (probationary/qualifying periods), and a review of active discipline and most recent performance evaluation. Employees with a rating that does not meet minimum standards may be disqualified from this recruitment process.
4. Written Examination – (Weighted: 50%, Passing Score: 70%) – test will measure basic knowledge of English, following directions, and mathematical calculations.
5. Oral Board Interview – Weighed: 50%, Passing Score: 70%)
6. Pre-Employment Screening – Selected candidates for this position are subject to a pre-employment screening which includes but is not limited to local & state criminal history check; federal criminal history check via submission of fingerprints; and drug screening. *IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Background check processing may take 2 to 3 months to complete
7. Selection/Offers!
Note: Subsequent vacancies during the life of the internal eligibility list may require participation in an additional selection interview. The selection interview will be weighted 100%, requiring a passing score of 70% in order to be considered for the subsequent position vacancy.
The selection process may include any combination of written, performance, and oral assessments to evaluate job-related education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The City reserves the right to modify selection devices and test instruments in accordance with accepted legal, ethical, and professional standards.
