QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES:

Must be 18 years of age at the time of hire. 

 

Education and Experience 
•    High school diploma or equivalent
•    Preference will be given to candidates who possess a current and valid Operator in Training (OIT) certification from the State of Nevada (or another state’s equivalent) in wastewater treatment.  Candidates that don’t possess the OIT certificate at time of hire must obtain within 2 months of temporary employment.  
•    Any combination of education, training and experience which produces knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job and related to the essential functions of the position.  
•    Must be currently or previously enrolled in an accredited college or university program related to environmental safety and health. 

 

Licenses and Certifications
•    Must possess a valid NV Class C driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory motor vehicle record. 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
•    Basic knowledge of the concepts, ideas, and theories related to safe wastewater treatment plant operations. 
•    Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; take direction and training provided through both written and verbal instruction and incorporate into daily performance of duties; read, interpret, and follow established written processes; and exercise sound judgment in the performance of duties, including seeking further guidance in areas of uncertainty. 
•    Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. 
•    While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to exert 100 pounds of force; ascend or descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, use feet and legs or hands and arms; bend body downward and forward by bending legs and spine; reach and extend hands in any direction; work with hands and fingers by handling, seizing, holding, grasping or turning objects. Strength and mobility to work in a typical plant operations setting, including operating hand and power tools; stamina to perform sustained physical labor, including standing, walking, climbing and working in confined or awkward spaces; strength to lift and maneuver materials and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds with proper equipment; vision to read printed material, computer screen and determine fine color differences; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, or over the radio or telephone. 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:
While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions; non-weather related hot and cold temperatures; conditions such as fumes, noxious odors, dust, mists, gases and poor ventilation that affect the respiratory system, eyes or the skin; bodily injury from explosions, radiation, falling from high, exposed places and moving mechanical parts of equipment, tools or machinery. Work with potential exposure to hazardous chemicals and substances found in the wastewater treatment process. May be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment in the performance of some duties.  
 
Regular and timely attendance is required.
