MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:

  • Must currently possess a Nevada Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) Category III certification*
  • Must possess a High School Diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver license. Upon hire, possess a Nevada or "border state" driver license under conditions defined by Nevada Revised Statute 483.035
  • Must be a U.S. citizen by the time of application
  • Must be at least 21 years of age by the time of application
  • Must have no convictions for offenses greater than a misdemeanor. Must have no convictions for offenses of domestic violence
  • Visual acuity must be correctable to 20/40 in one eye and 20/30 in both eyes.
  • Hearing must be 30 decibels or less for each ear
  • Must successfully complete the North Las Vegas Police Department Advanced Academy within the time frame prescribed by the department


ASSESSMENT INFORMATION:
Physical Fitness Test (Pass/Fail) – Scheduled by appointment only.
Oral Board (Weighted 100%) – Scheduled by appointment only.

 

STEP # 1
EMPLOYMENT APPLICATION

Applicants who submit a timely application and meet the minimum qualifications will be invited to the Physical Agility Test.

 

STEP # 2
PHYSICAL AGILITY TEST
 (Invitation Only)

Those invited to the Physical Agility Test will be contacted by email.
The Nevada Administrative Code Section 289.200 sets the physical fitness standards required for a law enforcement recruit.

City of North Las Vegas Testing Standards:

  • Vertical Jump - 15 inches
  • Agility Run – 20.4 SECONDS
  • Push Ups – 20 qualifying push-ups (no time limit; but any rest is in the up position)
  • 300 Meter Run – 74 seconds
  • 1.5 Mile Run – 17 minutes, 37 seconds

STEP # 3
BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION

Applicants who pass the physical agility test and the Oral Review Board will invited to undergo a thorough criminal background investigation which will include a background interview.

STEP # 4
PSYCHOLOGICAL SUITABILITY ASSESSMENT

The Psychological Suitability Assessment is by invitation only and begins with a written psychological assessment. The written assessment typically takes 4-5 hours to complete. Before leaving the test site applicants are scheduled for a 30 minute interview with the psychologist for some time that week. Every effort will be made to schedule the interview the day after the exam for out of state applicants. Applicants should prepare to be flexible with their calendar for the days following the written assessment to accommodate the interview.

  2. Physical Fitness Test / Oral board (Scheduled by appointment only)
  3. Background Investigation
     Includes an extensive background check, polygraph/CVSA examination, medical/drug screen exam. All top scoring candidates must pass the Background Investigation in order to move forward in the process.
  4. Conditional Offer Letters
  5. Psychological and Medical Evaluations
  6. Official Offers

 

BACKGROUND PROCESS & PRE EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

Candidates for this position are subject to pre-employment screenings and employment is contingent upon these results. Pre-employment screenings may include but are not limited to: local, state, and federal criminal history checks, and may require submission of fingerprints; drug screen; and physical examinations to include a psychological evaluation.
